2001
FirstCape was founded in 2001 with a vision to bring the best of South African winemaking to the world. In partnership with a group of respected co-operatives in the Western Cape, we set out to create wines that combined quality, value, and accessibility. Within just a few years, FirstCape became one of the UK’s fastest-growing South African wine brands, gaining recognition for its vibrant, fruit-forward style.

2010
In 2008, we took a major step forward by acquiring our own flagship winery in Simondium near Franschhoek. This state-of-the-art facility gave us full control over blending and bottling, allowing us to consistently deliver exceptional wines to our customers. Around this time, we also expanded our range to include premium tiers, reflecting both the evolving tastes of our consumers and the incredible diversity of South Africa’s wine regions.
2010 - 2012
Responding to a growing demand for lighter styles, we launched our Café Collection in 2010—a low-alcohol wine range that introduced a more mindful way to enjoy wine without compromising on flavour. Supported by nationwide campaigns and partnerships, the range helped introduce a new generation of wine drinkers to the FirstCape experience.
By 2012, we were proud sponsors of the British & Irish Lions and the Jubilee Festival in Hyde Park, bringing our wines to even more people at iconic British events.

2025
In recent years, we’ve continued to refine and refresh our offering. In 2025, we launched the FirstCape Special Cuvée Rosé, a delicately pale and refreshing blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir crafted in the Western Cape. Available exclusively through Tesco, it reflects our ongoing commitment to quality, innovation, and drinkability—ideal for summer moments and shared occasions.
Today, FirstCape remains deeply rooted in its co-operative heritage, working with over 150 partner growers in South Africa’s Breede River Valley. Our wines are now enjoyed across the UK and Ireland, and we remain committed to sustainability, accessibility, and celebrating life’s everyday moments—one glass at a time.
